Satheseus is a premium SAT tutoring practice based on Long Island, New York, offering private one-on-one and small-group preparation for the digital SAT. All three of our tutors scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT — 1530, 1540, and 1550 — and have tutored hundreds of students between them. We work in person with students across Long Island and remotely with students anywhere in the world through a private video room with a shared digital whiteboard.
Our slogan is improvement beyond recognition, and it reflects how we work. We don't sell canned curricula or worksheet packs. Every student gets a diagnostic trial session, a custom plan built around their weaknesses, and sessions designed week by week as they progress. Students typically see 100–400 point improvements over a full engagement.
01 — WhatSAT preparation, done carefully
We specialize exclusively in the digital SAT (Reading, Writing, and Math sections). Our tutors know the test inside and out because they took it recently themselves and scored at the top of it. We cover every question type the SAT asks, from linear equations to rhetorical synthesis, and we teach students how to approach each one methodically rather than through guesswork.
02 — WhoThree 99th-percentile tutors
David Chen (1550 — 800 Math / 750 Reading) founded projectengagenj.org, which has taught over 5,000 students, and has personally tutored more than 500. Elaine Su (1540 — 770/770) has 200+ hours tutoring SAT Reading/Writing, Math, and APs. James Sheng (1530 — 790/740) has 180+ hours tutoring SAT R/W and Math, and founded Satheseus. Each tutor has a distinct teaching style so students can be matched to the person who fits them best.
03 — HowOne-on-one or small group
Private one-on-one tutoring is $95/hour in 60-minute sessions, either in person on Long Island or fully remote. This is the core offering — a single student, a single tutor, a single hour of undivided attention, with curriculum built around the student rather than the other way around. Small-group tutoring is $55/hour in 90-minute sessions, with cohorts of three students carefully matched by level and temperament. Group sessions are for students who learn best in dialogue and want a lower price point.
04 — MethodQuestion-led, not lecture-led
We rarely lecture. Instead we work alongside the student, asking questions that build intuition before notation. Difficulty is calibrated session by session — never too soft, never crushing. Students leave every session with a clear sense of what they understood, what they didn't, and what to practice before the next one. Homework is bespoke, not generic worksheet packs.
05 — ResultsReal point improvements
Our students have moved from 1100 to 1500 overall, from 590 to 740 on Math, and from 1400 to 1550 after several months of prep. These are representative of what a committed student can achieve — not outliers. The key variable is always how much work the student is willing to put in between sessions, which is why we're selective about who we take on.
06 — WhereLong Island and online
We're based on Long Island, New York and work in person with students across the region. We also offer fully remote tutoring to students anywhere in the world, conducted over a private video room with a shared digital whiteboard. Remote sessions are just as effective as in-person ones for SAT prep because almost all the work happens on shared text and math, which the whiteboard handles seamlessly.
07 — WhenMonday through Sunday
Sessions are available Monday through Sunday by appointment. Morning slots from 9 to 12, afternoon from 2 to 6, and a small number of evening slots for students with packed schedules. Most families book a weekly recurring slot that becomes the student's anchor point for prep.
08 — StartBegin with a trial
Every new student begins with a trial session — a diagnostic conversation where we assess current level, discuss goals, and design a plan. If the fit is right, we continue. If not, there's no pressure to commit. Contact us at
our contact page or reach us on Instagram or Discord.
